You need JavaScript enabled to view it Graduation Year: 2010 GPA: NJROTC Cadet, Varsity Wrestler, staff member Ellipsis Literary magazine, Key Club, SGA, Student Council Class Representative, FCA Freshman Year Stats-Matthew wrestled off to earn a spot on arguably Cary’s best team ever in over 30 years, but more importantly on one of NC’s best teams in history, his freshman year. This team went undefeated, traveled to upstate New York to the Tri-Valley Tournament and triumphed over 25 teams by a margin of 99 points, won the Tiger Classic, was ranked #2 in the U.S. Southeastern Region and #25 nationally by USA Wrestling Magazine, all 14 starters, including Matt, were named All-Conference and made conference finals in their Tri-8 division, went on to win the state duals against West Forsyth High School by the largest margin of victory (53-9) in NC history, won Regionals and advanced 11 wrestlers to state, and then won state finals. Matt suffered an injury pre-season but finished the season through Regionals on Varsity. He did not go to state finals that year and is 100% healed. Cary 130 Varsity Starter (placed 3rd @ Pre-Season Nationals) Pre-Season- The summer after 8th grade and before his freshman year began at Cary, Matt teched Chris Townsend (10th at the time) in Greco Roman at NCUSA States and lost to him by one point in Freestyle. Chris was voted MOW of the State tournament in 2008. Ranked by USA Wrestling Magazine # 27 @ 135 Record: 36-15 (24 Falls) Named All-Conference, 2nd @ Conference due to injury default in finals, injured and did not go to state finals freshman year. Sophomore Year Stats-The 2006-2007 team had a tough act to follow. 12 seniors had graduated the year before leaving a young, determined group of young men behind. But they came together to etch their own notch in Cary history going undefeated and winning both dual team and state finals again. Cary was ranked #4 in the Southeast. This team won the prestigious Tiger Classic for the third year in a row. 10 wrestlers, including Matt, were named all-conference, won its 16th straight Regional title and advanced 9 wrestlers to state finals. Matt wrestled his way to 5th place at state finals and his team earned its 18th state championship. Cary 135 Varsity Starter (went 4-2 at Super 32 preseason) Ranked by USA Wrestling Magazine # 22 @ 135 Record: 54-6 (33 Falls) Named All-Conference, 1st @ Conference, 2nd Regionals, 5th State Bumping up two weight classes for Sophomore Nationals, Matt went 5-2 placing in the top 12 and missing All American status by one match @ 145.
