Justin Allen graduated from Raleigh Millbrook High School last spring. He was a state champion in 2005 and placed third at the state tournament last February. Allen was upset in the state semifinals losing his first match since the state tournament in 2004. Allen was a two-sport star in football and wrestling while at Millbrook. This created a dilemma for Allen where he had to decide which sport he would choose to continue in college. After much deliberation, Allen chose wrestling and accepted a scholarship from powerhouse Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
Allen has a lot of potential as a college wrestler. He learns quickly and is very athletic. Standing 6'4" and weighing 248lbs, Allen has tons of potential for a college heavy weight. After his upset in the state tournament, he made another decision. Allen decided to try Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling and compete in the national tournament in Fargo, North Dakota. I had a chance to talk with Justin while traveling through Minnesota on the bus ride back from Fargo.

Most people know that Colt Howell wrestled for Alexander Central his freshman year and became a state qualifier winning one match at the state tournament. They also know that he transferred to Bandys high school the next year and won a state championship. What most people don't know are the trails and tribulations he went though starting only one week after winning the state championship. I did not have to do this interview to find out about the challenges he has faced in 2005, as his coach for the past two years, I have went through many of them with him. The way he faced these problems and overcame them has put him down in my book as one of the most courageous wrestlers I have ever coached.

Recently, I got to chat with the three state champions from Watauga High School. Individually, any of the three are great
wrestlers; but collectively, they work together like a finely tuned
machine. If anyone wants to see how wrestlers are supposed to
drill, then they need to watch these three together at a
practice. They execute their moves with the quickness and
precision that all coaches dream of seeing. On the mat they are
aggressive and always trying to score, no matter what position they are
in. Off the mat, two-time state champion and rising senior Travis
Coffey seems to be the quiet leader of the group while fellow rising
senior Matt Moretz is a joker, providing laughs and breaking tension
with his numerous one liners and comedy routines. Rising junior
Jacob Earp is the most laid back, and during the interview he just sat back and took in the words of whit from his older teammates.
Read on to see what the "Three Musketeers" from Watauga high have to
say about their careers, goals, and coaching situation in Boone, N.C.

For the past 12 years Scott Swain has been a national team coach for NCUSA wrestling. During that time his stepson Cameron has been a constant companion at the tournaments he has coached. The exposure Cameron has gotten from attending and participating in these tournaments have elevated him to one of North Carolina's elite wrestlers this year. Last summer, these two achieved one of their major goals when Scott coached Cameron to a 6th place finish and All-American honors in the Junior Greco National Championships at Fargo, North Dakota. When it comes to wrestling, Scott and Cameron live and breathe Greco - Roman wrestling.
Read on to see the special relationship this father and son / coach and wrestler have forged in search of a common dream: wrestling Greco in the Olympics.

Luke
Rebertus is a Maryland wrestler. He goes to a private high school
in Delaware, not far from his home in Maryland. He won a state
championship as a freshman, wrestling for McDonough High School.
Last season he won a Delaware state championship, wrestling for Caravel
High School. Even more impressive are his accomplishments at
Fargo. The last two summers Luke has won the Cadet National
Championship in both Greco and Freestyle. Currently, Rebertus is
the #2 ranked junior in the nation. With another strong showing
at Fargo this summer, he could very well be the top ranked high school
wrestler in the nation next fall at 160lbs. Rebertus also has
very strong ties to North Carolina. His grandparents live in
Greensboro, so Luke occasionally shows up at various North Carolina off
season wrestling tournaments. He has attended the North Carolina
Developmental camp at UNC Pembroke the last six years. This was
where I got to know Luke two years ago.
Let's see what Luke has to say.
